If you don’t already have access to the song Monster Mash by Bobby “Boris” Pickett, you can find it in the iTunes store. You’ll also find activity ideas from the PDF below.

Ways to Use the Original Song Version:

1. FOLLOW THE LEADER
Have students take turns on each verse making up a monster dance for the others to imitate.

2. STORY RETELL
After listening to the song have students retell the story and answer basic “Who”, “What”, “When”, “Where” and “Why” questions. ART ACTIVITY Play the song in the background while having students draw their own version of a monster party… Who would they invite?

Ways to Use Live Singing or a Karaoke Version

1. MONSTER FLASHCARD MASH
Using the monster flashcards provided, have each student choose a monster. Sing the chorus, adding in the name of the monster they selected. While singing, encourage the student to create body movements that mimic the selected ‘monster’. You can also use the masks provided for props.

For example:
She did the mash. She did the SKELETON mash. She did the mash, it was a graveyard smash. She did the mash, it caught on in a flash, She did the mash. She did the SKELETON mash!

2. MAKE YOUR OWN MONSTER MASH
You can also use the same activity above, but have students first draw their own monsters and use those as flashcards to choose from.
